Procedure
1) Get all needed supplies collected and together in one area.
2) Put all needed substances to water plants in freezer/fridge (just so that they’re cold by the time you need them to water the plants).
3) Separate the things you need in order to plant the seeds (soil, seeds, plant pots, etc.) from the things you will need later in the experiment (ruler, watering substances, etc.).
4) Put on apron, gloves and safety goggles.
5) Get out planting soil and seeds.
6) Put about ½ cup of soil into each plant compartment.
7) Plant one seed about ¼ an inch down in the soil, repeat in each plant compartment of every tray. Make sure not to put more than one seed in any single compartment.
8) Label each tray with the substance that will be watering the plants in that tray.
9) Get out all of the needed substances to water the plants (refrigerated) and the measuring cup used to measure liquids.
10) Put 5ml of the assigned substance in each compartment of the tray assigned to that substance.
11) Repeat step 10 with all of the trays; make sure to only water every compartment with 5ml and to not water them with the wrong caffeinated substance.
12) Choose a good environment that gets a steady amount of sunlight so that all of the plants can get an equal amount of sun (ex. a table near a window.)
13) Make sure all of the plant containers are planted and watered.
14) Set them all side-by-side or in a way that they all get an equal amount of sunlight in the designated spot for the plants.
15) Make any notable observations about planting or watering the seeds if there are any significant observations.
16) Mark the amount of time it took you to plant and water your seeds in your logbook.
17) Repeat steps 1, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 until the plants start to grow.
18) Take observations and notes in logbook.
After the plants have started to grow:
19) Water the plants with 5ml of the substance assigned to that tray.
20) Use the centimeter side of the ruler to measure all of the plants in each tray, average all of the plant heights in every tray.
21) Start an average heights table in the logbook and keep track of the average heights for each tray every day after growth has occurred until the end of the experiment.
22) Write down any observations or notes in the logbook.
23) Take pictures of the plants to keep track of the growth, be sure to label them with the date and day of the experiment.
24) Set the trays back in the assigned area.
25) Repeat steps 19-24 until the experiment is over.
26) After the experiment is over, print all off the pictures and put them in the logbook.
